Welcome to the Rushmoor School website
We hope you will find the site useful and of interest in finding the right education for your son or daughter. It can be no substitute, however, for a personal visit of the school, giving an insight into school life and the unique ethos of Rushmoor. Please contact the Admissions Secretary to arrange a personal tour with the Principal.
We appreciate the importance you attach to selecting the best independent school for your son or daughter; childhood is something which can be experienced only once. With this in mind, and the belief that children learn best when they feel happy and secure, we aim to develop in our pupils a lifelong interest in learning - one which encompasses the full range of intellectual, cultural, artistic and sporting achievements of our society.
It is always pleasing to hear what parents think about school life at Rushmoor. Our parental surveys are overwhelmingly positive and we receive many words of thanks. Here is one recent example:
We moved our son to Rushmoor because he had lost all confidence in himself and his academic abilities and we were worried he would start disengaging from learning. He is still modest but has gained a lot of inner confidence and has flourished. Rushmoor has given him the building blocks to achieve whatever he wants in life. He has found motivation and happiness.
As you know, the PE department noticed him lurking in the middle of the running field and coached and encouraged him until to our great surprise we collected him from school one day and he told us he won the ISA National 800m. You encouraged him to join Bedford Athletics Club and he now runs for them. You may be interested to hear that he is currently ranked 16th in England for Under 17s for 800m (1 min 57.5 seconds). The focus and discipline he has learned from his sport is reflected in his approach to school.
Your teachers have really inspired him and seem to just be able to get the best out of him. We do really feel that if our son had not moved to Rushmoor the outlook for him would be very different, and that academically Rushmoor has brought out the best in him.
I must also mention the respect that Rushmoor inspires. I am not sure how you do it, but I have never ceased to be amazed by the considerateness, support and tolerance the pupils show towards each other. It is a far cry from his previous school. I believe it comes from a culture of respect they learn at school, the respect they have for all their teachers and the respect the teachers show them.
Centenary 1918 - 2018
Rushmoor School first came to Bedford in 1918, having moved here from London during the First World War. Celebrations to mark the centenary year in 2018 began on the 11th May with a reunion for former pupils and their families, together with former staff, which proved to be a wonderful celebration.
During the summer term, the junior school pupils hosted a special tea party for their parents where they entertained them with songs and poems themed around the centenary celebrations. There was an anniversary assembly about the School's history and a celebratory cake for all the pupils to enjoy. Also, various departments themed work around the centenary, for example, the mathematics department encouraged pupils to compete in times table competitions by using the 100 number square.
We are very proud of our strong reputation in Bedfordshire for providing excellent care and education. Our motto is "Where Individuals Matter" and this has always been true over our long history.

The PTFA exists as the social and fund-raising arm of the school's activities.
We organise different social events throughout the year, trying to involve as many children and parents as possible in events such as fetes, feature evenings, sporting events etc..
We are a group of volunteers, parents looking to be innovative and find new ways to support the children and the school.
In the last year, there have been a number of significant purchases, most recent being numerous cleverboards.
