Zero Clue About Zero Waste?

Firstly, we would just like to remind you all that we are open as normal during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. We are still operating the shop on a one in one out basis, with just one person allowed in the shop at any time. Please bear in mind that there could be people waiting while you are shopping with us, so for the time being, please try to keep time spent in the shop to a minimum! Thank you!

During this strange period, many people have been getting back to basics with cooking, and we have seen a big rise in demand for beans, oats, chopped tomatoes and other staples of home cooking.  We think that this is great, and we are delighted to be able to offer our customers many of these items in our ever-growing refill section, which has proved to be a big hit since its inception last autumn.

It was always our intention to install a loose food area in the shop, and it has been brilliant to see people embracing the idea and continuing to use it – many bringing their own containers from home. We now have around 60 loose food items, and we aren’t quite finished yet, so if there is anything you would like to see there that isn’t already, let us know and we’ll see what we can do! While the staples like oats and seeds will always be the most popular, we also have things like oil, toilet bombs and soap nuts available, so if you’re looking for something in the shop but you can’t see it on the shelves, we may have it on the refill section, so don’t be afraid to ask! We will be publishing a list on the website for an overall view of what we offer to refill, but this is ever evolving, so it's always worth to ask too.

As well as the burgeoning food section, our household product refills have continued to be popular throughout our time in the shop. This is an area that can make a big difference in reducing plastic production, and it’s fantastic to see so many people around the Holme Valley getting onboard with it. If you haven’t filled up your empty bottles before, what are you waiting for?! It couldn’t be easier to do – just bring down whatever bottle you have and fill it with whatever you need. It doesn’t have to the same branded bottle (although we do have filled Bio-D bottles available if you prefer), as long as it has a measurement on it, and somewhere to fill the liquid, then you're good to go!

If that's where you're up to with your plastic reduction, then that's brilliant. But for those who are looking to go even further, we hope to be posting regular updates about what products we have in stock to help you reduce waste in all areas of your home. It can never be perfect, but we hope that if you're reading this post, then you're as fascinated and excited about seeking out alternatives to everyday items as we are. We are open to requests if any of you have seen a new product that you're interested in, as we're always on the lookout for new and interesting products and brands.

In the meantime, we'd like to thank everyone who is still shopping with us through the uncertainty, both in store and through home delivery. We appreciate all of your support, and the kind words and messages many of you have given us. We know that we are lucky to have such lovely customers, and we certainly don't take this for granted!
